I Guess Theyre Not Python Fans

No time today to glory in Obama’s just about perfect speech last night, or John McCain’s rather obvious Hail Mary play in making an arch-conservative 44-year old former small-town mayor and two-year governor of one of the nation’s least populous states as his running mate, when maybe his biggest argument was going to be “experience” — I still would have preferred Robogovernor Romney (I’m more comfortable with the losing choice I know!). However, I will note that MSNBC’s pundit’s had a hard time with Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s name this morning. It’s PAY-LIN. She’s not the first celebrity to have the name.

Good old fellow Kevin Drum of Irvine, enjoying his new digs over at the revamped Mother Jones, has some short, pithy, posts on Palin and last night’s speech.

And, one more thought, I’m listening to her speech right now. I’ll give McCain this, Governor Palin is definitely poised, though I guess that’s no surprise given her background in beauty pageants. Chuck Todd is right, I think, to speculate that this might raise the profile of Hillary Clinton even further in the upcoming campaign. I’m sure she’ll help rally the base, what’s left of it.

But what was the deal with that majestic music (Aaron Copeland?) they used to introduce her? Did they really think that would have any impact, other than an ironic one, after this?
