On November 20th, Paramount Home Video is set to debut Fax Bahr and George Hickenlooper's 1991 award-winning documentary on the corrosive personalities and extraordinary circumstances that plagued the production of Francis Ford Coppola's APOCALYPSE NOW. Although it's somewhat strange that the two documentarians will not be on any of the supplements, it's great to see the Coppola's (Francis and his wife, Eleanor, who provided much of the footage for the doc) doing a commentary, as well as brand new, behind-the-scenes stuff (also shot by Eleanor) on the new Coppola, Sr. project -- YOUTH WITHOUT YOUTH.
From the press release:
" The HEARTS OF DARKNESS A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse DVD includes an all-new audio commentary by Francis and Eleanor Coppola as well as the first release ever of CODA: Thirty Years Later, a brand new documentary about the making of Coppola’s first new feature film in 10 years. Eleanor Coppola once again goes behind the camera to document her husband’s work on Youth Without Youth and reveals an older Francis as he approaches “guerilla filmmaking” in a youthful way, making a self-financed film outside of studio control."
