I’m so enthusiastic about this Guillermo Del Toro’s film that now I feel it overwhelms the great impression that back in the 80’s decade, during my adolescence, caused on me the unforgettable fantasy film “The Never Ending Story”.
Although this film is somewhat crude and brutal when it shows us some gruesome acts of violence, the generous capability of his writer-director to tell and to interconnect this beautiful fantasy story with historic fragments of the Francisco Franco’s rule in Spain, during the Second World War, result in such a fine and interesting film work that --if you love fantasy-- will make you want to watch this film over and over.
The intrinsic drama and violence of the story runs parallel with an invisible world of strange magic and fantasy, full of unimaginable entities, odd places and unknown horrors, those elements will drive you lost in to a profound and enjoyable filmic experience.
It’s not common to find such great movie endings. That’s why I can tell Pan’s Labyrinth will meet satisfaction to the most demanding narration expectative of any film connoisseurs; this is thanks to the superb structure of the climax and the ending of the story. Pan’s Labyrinth shows Guillermo Del Toro mastery to wrap-up his work, leaving us with a thankful sensation of wonder, admiration and nostalgia.
In my opinion, this film has made a special achievement regarding the extraordinary creatures and the mysterious environments of the film sets, both aspects make this movie a superior work.
No doubt, this is one of the best films within the fantasy-horror genre I’ve seen in years.
Regarding actor’s performance I’m specially impressed by actor Sergi López, as Captain Vidal and little Ofelia, played by Ivana Baquero.

Quedé tan entusiasmado con este trabajo de Guillermo del Toro que me parece que rebasa la tremenda impresión que en los años ochentas, durante mi adolescencia, me causara el filme “The Never Ending Story”.
Aunque este trabajo es muy crudo y brutal cuando nos presenta impactantes hechos sangrientos, la generosa capacidad de su escritor-director de narrar una historia fantástica entrelazada con fragmentos de la época Franquista en España hacen de El Laberinto del Fauno un filme para desear verlo una y otra vez.
El violento drama de la historia se entreteje magistralmente con un mundo paralelo de magia y fantasía, lleno de seres extraordinarios, lugares inimaginables y horrores desconocidos, estos elementos nos llevan a perdernos en una profunda historia que se vuelve una experiencia enormemente disfrutable.
También se podría decir que este filme satisface las exigencias narrativas más elevadas, pues pocas veces hay finales de historias tan bien estructurados. El Laberinto del Fauno es una de esas pocas películas que pueden presumir de elegante maestría para cerrar una historia y que nos dejan con esa sensación de asombro, admiración y nostalgia.
El filme, para a mi gusto, tiene un merecimiento especial por las extraordinarias criaturas y la gran ambientación que hacen de este filme un trabajo superior en muchos aspectos.
Sin, duda, una de las mejores películas del género de horror y fantasía que visto en años.
A mi juicio, la mejor actuación se la lleva Sergi López, en el papel del Capitán Vidal e Ivana Baquero como la pequeña Ofelia.
