C.H.U.D. GETTING A ROB ZOMBIE REMAKOVER?
2007-11-08 20:13:29 by Editor in B-MOVIE NEWS, REVIEWS, AND OTHER ASSORTED WEIRDNESS FROM THE FOYWONDER

"I'm not going to do any more Halloween movies, or any more remakes of any kind." - Rob Zombie, in an Entertainment Weekly interview two months ago

So I guess Rob changed his mind? He's prone to doing that; a few years ago we gave an interview complaining about all the unnecessary horror remakes Hollywood was churning out, complaining that many of these movies are classic that don't need to be remade, and then he turned around and redid HALLOWEEN.

Now Sir Rob of Zombie has gone on the record in an interview with Billboard confirming he's slated to direct a remake of the 1980's cult favorite C.H.U.D. Now I have no qualms with C.H.U.D. being remade since the film is far from perfect and one could probably make a fun creature feature if they do it right - though I've personally thought it would be better served as the basis for a survival horror video game.

Now on the plus side, at least Michael Bay isn't producing the remake, thus ensuring washed out color tones, hyper editing, and maximum suckage. But on the other hand, I saw Zombie's HALLOWEEN remake (both the theatrical version and the leaked online work print) and cannot help but find myself apprehensive. Zombie seems to be stuck in some sort of creative loop in which he just keeps falling back on white trash psychopaths even where they don't fit (i.e. the suburbs of Haddonfield, Illinois) and despite C.H.U.D.'s subterranean urban setting, I just have a horrible feeling Mr. Zombie will still somehow manage to transform the glowy-eyed sewer mutant Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers into foul-mouthed, inbred, redneck hobos with a taste for human flesh and making tasteless comments about wanting to "skull fuck" people. Let's hope Rob Zombie has learned a new note by the time this remake rolls out sometime in 2009.
