While we don’t know who will shuffle off this mortal coil on the second season of “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles,” series star Thomas Dekker told the New York Daily News that when he heard, the news “shocked” him.

The actor first heard about the development following series producer John Wirth’s panel at ComicCon and thought, at first, it was a joke. However, the major character death is happening and while Dekker won’t reveal anything about who might die, he promises viewers will be “shocked at what this specific death signifies in the scope of the ‘Terminator.’”

But beyond the death of a character, what can fans expect when “Sarah Connor” returns on FOX a week from Monday?

Dekker says that this season will show the growth of John Connor into the hero he becomes in the movie series.

“In the first season, my intention was to almost frustrate people by not giving them the savior or hero of the world that they were looking for. I wanted him to be weak and young and slightly immature and impulsive,” he said. “But this year, the hero that will eventually save the world will emerge and it doesn’t happen just by accident.”

“I wanted so badly to play the anger and the strength and the power and fight of my character, and finally, that’s all I’ve been doing this year,” said Dekker. “Everything has become much heavier for John. I’ve gotten to do a lot of action and fighting, but more importantly, I’ve gotten to do some strong scenes with the other actors.”

Dekker says that he and the rest of the cast have gelled well and are comfortable with their role inside the larger “Terminator” universe. Dekker went on to say that he feels the series is worthy addition to the “Terminator” universe, standing with or even exceeding the popular movies.

“I think we feel a little bit more confident this year because we’ve established ourselves as our own entity,” said Dekker. “Before, we were so concerned about staying true to the film, which we still are, but I think we feel that we can be more experimental now and more confident in taking risks.”

Fans can judge for themselves when “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” kicks off its second season, Monday September 8 at 8 p.m. EST on FOX.

Knockers. Boobies. Tits. Canons. Mounts of Olympus. Jugs. Mounds of Joy. Ta Tas. Melons. Nipple Holders. Breasts. Lovely Lady Lumps. Baby Feeders. Bazookas. Cans. Cupcakes. Rack. Milkshakes. Hooters. Fun Bags.

Yes, young teen and pre-teen boys are so obsessed with women and their breasts that over the years we’ve come up with literally hundreds of slang phrases and variations of those phrases. That’s just how much we think about them. All the time. Non stop. It’s sad. It’s pathetic and juvenile, but the cold hard fact is that it’s also nature… and if women didn’t know that, they wouldn’t wear push up bras with low cut shirts. But that’s a rant for another blog.

Yes, our adolescent preoccupation with “boobs” doesn’t end in our teen years either. As we get older, some of us men just learn to mask and hide our genetic fixation and act more civil about it… but make no mistake about it my friends, it is still very much there and still very much alive, and any man who says otherwise is either A) Living out an alternative lifestyle, or B) LYING THROUGH HIS LYING TEETH OF LIES!!!

If you’re a woman, and you’re having a face to face conversation with a man… trust me… the moment you look away at something, he’s checking out the boob meat. A skillful man will let his eyes feast just long enough that he can get his eyes lined back up with yours just before you turn your attention back to him. In some respects, we are ninjas that way.

We aren’t objectifying you. We aren’t disrespecting you and we certainly aren’t belittling you. You simply have something we love, fixate on and are genetically driven to desire… and as kids, the only way most of us would get a chance to see the object of our desire was in movies.

Yes, for many of us, movies (not porn, just the regular ones) were our gateway, our conduit if you will to the wonderful world of nudity. Yes, the benevolent magical porn elves of the forest would sometimes leave dirty magazines around for us to find in the woods, but for the most part, regular movies held the potential to show us that thing we infatuated about the most… naked women. Yes yes yes, I understand how pathetic that sounds, but it is what it is.

I still remember my first “exposure” to a movie with nudity. I was 11 or 12 and I saw “Police Academy”. I was already in love with movies by that age because of Star Wars, but I was about to discover a whole new purpose for movies… to show me boobies! What man among us didn’t fantasize about Callahan at some point?

But now let me fast forward 20 or so years. It’s now 2008. The internet is here. As full grown men all of us have seen “boobies” in real life. Full blown porn is available to us for free… anytime… 24/7. We no longer need a Hollywood movie to provide us with images of naked women, because we can get that just about anywhere any time. And yet… we still obsess about it.

I’ll be honest, the main reason most men (including myself) had any sort of anticipation level about the new Woody Allen film “Vicky Christina Barcelona” was because we heard last year that there was going to be a threesome in it involving Penelope Cruz and Scarlett Johansson. Just look around the interweb, and that’s the part everyone was talking about.

This week a new 80’s style comedy flick called “College” is opening up. The main draw of the film is that it promises nudity and sex (and hopefully it’ll be funny too). But the reality is that if I’m dying to look at some nudity or sex, I don’t have to wait till Friday, drive the the movie theater and pay $12 to get in to see it while surrounded by hundreds of other people. If nudity and sex are what I’m looking for, I don’t need the movies at all anymore.

So why do some of us still give any weight or importance to the idea of nudity in film as a drawing point, if nudity and sex are available 24/7? Why do some studios still rely on it as a selling point? Even kids today don’t need the magical porn elves of the forest anymore. Watching the scrambled channels late at night in hopes of a fraction of a second of clarity on a nipple is a thing of the past.

I’m not talking about artistic nudity, like Viggo Mortensen in “Eastern Promises” fighting nude in the steam room. That made sense. It had a purpose other than trying to be sexually titillating. Sexually titillating scenes can also serve a purpose and the story at times when used right. No, what I’m talking about is gratuitous nudity for it’s own sake just as a selling feature. Does it matter anymore?

So let me ask you this. AND BE HONEST… we all know that the promise of nudity in a movie USED TO appeal to you a great deal, but does it anymore? Does the free availability of nudity on the web, or age or maturity negate the draw of sex in a movie for you? If it still holds some drawing power for you (I admit that it did for me a little with the “Vicky Christina Barcelona” example), why do you think that is?

Principle photography on “Enemy: Starfleet” is scheduled to continue on September 4-7, 2008; and “The Child” is scheduled to film from October 6-18, 2008. Both film shoots will take place at Retro Film Studios in Port Henry and Ticonderoga, New York.

All levels of skill are needed for Phase II’s behind the scenes work.

On a cold day last December, an actor playing a part against Angelina Jolie leaned over and kissed her. The only trouble was, it wasn’t in the script.

“I try to be selective with my improvising,” said Jason Butler Harner, who is her co-star in Clint Eastwood’s upcoming “Changeling.” So he checked with the director first. “Clint approved,” he said. “He could see it happening and he said, ‘Do it and we’ll see what happens.’”

Jolie was supposed to be pushing Harner against a wall. It was the movie’s climatic scene, and her character, Christine Collins, was supposed to be confronting his character, Gordon Stewart Northcott, and asking him, “Did you kill my son?” (The film is based on a true story; in the 1920s, Collins’ son was abducted, and another boy was “returned” to her instead. When she insisted that the second boy was not her son, she was deemed hysterical, when actually it was a case of LAPD corruption).

“I had talked to her at the beginning of the day,” Harner said. “We had a big scene, and we’re supposed to be coming out of our corners, so it was a ‘How do we do this?’”

Nowhere in that talk did he mention he was planning to lay one on her, however. But Eastwood approved because he likes to shoot and use things that actors don’t expect — a scene they might well believe is just a rehearsal, for instance. So for the big climax being shot the last week of a 35-day shoot, he wanted Jolie to be caught off guard — and she was.

“She slapped me and she held me and she hit me and it was great,” Harner said. “She totally went with it. She’s really smart. She’s beautiful, but she’s really smart, and she’s a great actress.”

The scene takes place in Northcott’s prison cell on the eve of his execution.

“That guy invited the parents of the kids he killed to come the day before he was executed,” Harner said, “so he could tell them where the bodies were, or how he did it. But when they got there, he said, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about.’ He was demented and deserved a lot of things [to be done to him]. Including a slap, at the very least.”

While he gave numerous reasons, Diesel made it clear that he’s looking for a unique take on comic book films. Meaning? He wants to play a certain mysterious Marvel villain…and a complex one at that. Check out his full answer in the video after the jump, and then read our speculation as to who he’s talking about. Read More…

Facebook set the standard for the latest wave of networking websites, which are all about community and personalized recommendations. So I suppose I shouldn’t have been too surprised when porno took the same route.

The result is Videobox, the pinnacle of Onanistic technology. You can use the preview engine to analyze a scene before choosing to download it in one of four resolutions – and when you’re done, you can rate your favorite cumshots so that it will recommend other, similar, cumshots to you, then go scouting for even hotter scenes with a comprehensive search engine that allows you to find only the Gonzo Handjob MILF scenes starring Cherry Poppens.

I’m used to Netflix and Amazon tracking my movie habits, but knowing that there’s a gigantic computer dedicated to helping me masturbate more efficiently is a little creepy.

But the most bizarre bit about Videobox is the community. For in every scene, no matter how depraved or tame, you are allowed to leave a brief review. And others, in turn, can “Thumbs Up” or “Thumbs Down” that review, giving you an idea of how your fellow pud-whackers responded to this scene you’re looking at right now. If there’s a bad review, others will respond, giving you an entertaining flame war.

Naturally, I’m fascinated by this. I thought I knew porno, but no; these guys are a dedicated bunch, throwing themselves into pornography with all the zest of trainspotters or birdwatchers.

First off, they know their actresses obsessively. I have a few favorites I like, but on Videobox men are using their encyclopedic knowledge of smut to correct the archives. “This is mislabeled,” someone will say. “The actress here is actually Zena Fatara in an early role,” Then others will chime in with how it’s a shame that Zena doesn’t do anal, and that it’s nice to see her here before she got her boob job, and hey, isn’t the guy in this scene HIV-positive, it’s a shame that they haven’t kicked him out yet.

It’s like a little Star Magazine for porno.

Second, they’re firm critics, discussing “performances” and dissecting them with the seriousness that a professional critic uses to dissect a ballet performance. The number-one failure a girl can have in porno, according to Videobox, is to be a “cum-dodger” – at the end, you are obliged to take the sperm joyfully, not to flinch from it. At the same time, there’s much disdain of the sad men who must resort to busting a nut by hand when there’s a beautiful actress here to finish him off. That’s betraying, you know, the craft.

But the men of Videobox also rate enthusiasm and movement. Strangely, looks aren’t as important as you’d think – a girl might not have the greatest face or the best body, but she’ll be reviewed well as long as she has that joie de vivre, that ability to put on a heck of a show. A certain grinding quality is, in particular, heavily requested. Silence in a female performance is death to a Videobox review.

There are also a lot of other traits that can kill a scene. They want guys to shut up so they can focus on the women. They are irritated by poor camera angles, or bad lighting. They are here to whack it, and the interruptions pain them. The biggest complaint they can have is spending their precious time downloading some big scene, waiting with erotic anticipation, only to be disappointed by the myriad of issues that can kill the Big Scene.

Strangely, reviews that bitch about how ugly the women in a given scene are tend to get, in the parlance, “neg-banged” all the way to the bottom of the page. And reviews that ask, “Why the fuck would anyone be turned on by this?” also tend to get neg-banged; often, the hearty defenses of the joys of, say, GILF porn or BBW scenes rise to the top of the review pile.

This confused me for a long time. You’d think this a community of porno fanatics would be harsh on ugly women (and, to be fair, sometimes they are). But by and large, the good folks at Videobox realize that they’re all here to indulge their inner kink, and recognize that attraction is an intensely personal issue. If someone says, “Why the hell do women have to get these stupid tattoos?” you can pretty much bet they’ll be at the bottom, buried under a lot of counter-reviews that ask why the hell you’re watching it, then.

What will get a harsh reaction? Sadly, any hint of male bisexuality; even the gang-bangs get positive-rated reviews that complain about having too many cocks. There was a 200-post thread alternately defending and berating a video where men licked their own semen out of… well, various places they’d deposited it, but still. They are riotously homophobic at Videobox.

Also, they don’t like boob jobs. Again, this isn’t something I would have anticipated, but a frequent complaint is of the “landing strip” of flat skin in between two grapefruit-sized breasts. Odd.

The quickest way to get neg-banged? Humor. The men of Videobox are serious, and trying to get a rise out of them that’s not in their pants will get you smacked down.

I find myself endlessly fascinated by it, because it’s really quite strange. This is an alien world, where the men are objectifying women (and the men) to an absurd extent, but it’s also very much the same kind of debates and objectification involved in people discussing Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.

The reviewers are here to masturbate, and one senses they do it a lot, and they approach it with a focus on what gets them off. Anything that helps to do that is good, anything that detracts from that is bad, and they bring this attitude constantly in tiny, one-paragraph reviews that are like telegrams from an alien planet.

“I’m worried,” I said to Gini. “What if I get drawn in? Right now, I just skim because it’s so fucking weird, but what if I become one of those guys? What if, one day, I start keeping track of the names and realize that Marco1979 is full of shit, and start a running flame war with him across the pages of Videobox? They do it. I’ve seen them.”

“Then I’ll leave you,” she smiled.

“Thank God,” I sighed. “Thank God.”

In this Holy War on Terror, can there ever be a "winner" and a "loser," or are all parties both? In the name of God (or Allah), to what end are the soldiers of these wars winning to fight, and through what means? Does God overlook death when it is carried out in his name, and who can be classified an "innocent victim" and who can't? Without mentioning the words "War on Terror" or "Iraq" (amongst others not mentioned), these are the questions that Traitor seeks to answer, or at least explore, all while acting as more of a straight up drama/actioner than the more blatantly politically-minded Syriana.

Based on a story by Steve Martin (yes, that Steve Martin), Traitor stars Don Cheadle as Samir Horn, a man torn between two contrasting worlds. Born to a Sudanese father and American mother, the Muslim Horn bounced all over the world as a child and teen, picking up on the vast differences between the Middle East and the West. Despite never really knowing who to believe ideologically, Horn joined the American military after high school in Chicago, though after a tour with Special Forces in Afghanistan, he stayed behind, leaving his superiors questioning where his loyalties lied.

From there, Traitor takes you on a Bourne-like jaunt around the world, from Yemen to Marseilles to London, Toronto, D.C. and just about everywhere in between, as Samir, who is making his way into a terrorist cell, is simultaneously hunted down by the FBI (in the form of Guy Pearce and Neal McDonough) while serving as an asset to another Washington insider played by Jeff Daniels. Said Taghmaoui (Three Kings) also co-stars as Samir's friend/colleague in the terror cell.

Despite excellent acting and a taut, twisting narrative, Traitor eventually, um, betrayed me (couldn't help it). Early on, the sharp script takes some solid swipes at both the US and religious extremists. First, Pearce's agent remarks on the two-headed nature of all religions (citing the KKK as an example, where those that burned the crosses and those that cleaned up the mess both did their tasks in the name of God). Later, Samir's superior (Aly Khan) in the terror cell reminds the American audience watching that, once upon a time, the US could have been classified as little more than terrorists against England. The criticism is biting and true; as Samir attempts to point out to a number of characters throughout the film (and is something I try to do as well), what one sees as extreme or fanatical is largely dependent upon what shoes one is wearing. Having lived in both environments and being capable of "blending" into either, Samir understands this more than most.

However, the film sells out its soul in the midst of coming to its conclusion. Sure, both sides of the "war on terror" may be wrong, but perhaps the US side is just a bit more right, the film says. Leaving the film as the unfinished story it is might have angered some, but pandering is worse.

Fletch's Film Rating:

"Darn tootin!"

Final, unorganized thoughts:

* Though I was disappointed with the ending, I still enjoyed Traitor and would recommend it. The sad part is that that may be difficult. Marketing for it is all but invisible, and despite the fact that the Olympics are over, it was dumped to open on a Wednesday at the end of August. While it may not get the critical acclaim of either Bourne or Syriana, I feel that it at least deserved a chance. This is made all the more bizarre when you consider the appeal (if not star power) of the faces most recognizable to North American audiences (Cheadle, Pearce, Daniels). Hopefully, it will do better in the world market, but with it's pro-American finale, that may not be in the cards.

* It's funny that a discussion about billing (and movie posters) broke out in the comments today, as last night Mrs. Fletch and I were discussing the poster seen above. She was upset that Taghmaoui (a favorite of ours and future FF-UN candidate) isn't featured on it. I told her that it is indeed a shame (he easily has the 2nd most screen time after Cheadle) but is not surprising at all given that even I (a "name that actor/movie" geek) couldn't even recall his name prior to looking it up, and I really like the guy. Perhaps he'll get some love in his native France when it opens there.

* Also, Mrs. Fletch had an idea for an additional rating system here, and if it will do any service to others out there with motion sickness, I'm all for helping. Thus, I present you with The Dramamine Scale, to be given in terms of the number of Dramamine that people who hated The Blair Witch Project for fear of vomit might want to take prior to seeing a given film (either zero, one or two pills). Due to a fair share of shaky cam but more so because of the film's tightly shot style, Traitor receives TWO PILLS on the Dramamine Scale.

BAZ LUHRMANN’S HIGHLY ANTICIPATED EPIC, AUSTRALIA, TO BOW THANKSGIVING
LOS ANGELES, CA (August 27, 2008) __ Twentieth Century Fox announced today that it now will release AUSTRALIA – Baz Luhrmann’s epic adventure motion picture, starring Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman – on November 26th in the U.S., Canada and Australia. The rest of the world follows at Christmas as originally scheduled.

The move takes advantage of the Thanksgiving holiday play period in the U.S. – always one of the biggest moviegoing times of the year – made available by the absence of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

“Recent shifts in the release dates of other pictures created an opportunity for us to move AUSTRALIA to November 26, which is a big win for us and for this amazing film,” said Bruce Snyder, Fox’s President of Domestic Distribution. “It’s only a 12-day move, but the new date is an ‘event’ weekend – one of the busiest moviegoing periods of the year – and one truly befitting this Baz Luhrmann motion picture event.”
Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman star in Luhrmann’s epic and romantic action adventure, set in Australia on the explosive brink of World War II. Luhrmann is painting on a vast canvas, creating a cinematic experience that brings together romance, ACTION, adventure and spectacle.
