2008-11-07 04:01:00 by Editor in Movie Blog

...Boorman, the man who brought us Excalibur, Deliverance and, most importantly, Zardoz, is attached to direct a $25 million, CG-animated The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The adaptation of L. Frank Baums original novel will be Boormans first animated film. The film is written by Boorman, Ron Mita and Jim McClain ("Robots") and will be produced by...

Trailers from Hell: John Landis on POINT BLANK (John Boorman, 1967)

...Boorman's stylistic trendsetter, POINT BLANK, featuring the preeminent iconic performance from Lee Marvin The film Landis mentions as having shot in the same long corridors at LAX is, I believe, INTO THE NIGHT (1985), my personal favourite of his work. I've been writing an essay articulating just exactly why, but it's nowhere near ready....

...Boorman's ill-fated 1973 sci-fi epic Zardoz (referred to by many as Zardoze ) The bizarre futuristic tale involved immortality, slavery, sex-obsessed women and The Wizard of Oz. It's the kind of movie that should alarm you if it starts making sense to you. Nevertheless, we have a fond affection for the film. Where else can you see Sean...

...Boorman arrived on the tale of Martin Cahill, the infamous Dublin robber who was shot and killed by the IRA in 1994. Boorman was familiar with the exploits of The General because in 1981, Boormans home was burglarized. Among the objects lifted was a faux gold record the director had been presented for the soundtrack to Deliverance . He was...

...Boormans much despised EXORCIST II: THE HERETIC. The two films really arent very much alike otherwise but one other thing they do have in common is that fact that they are both pretty much insane. THE HERETIC can be mesmerizing, but its also impossible. You cant ignore the talent behind it (although many have) but theres no way to ignore the...

...Boormans WHERE THE HEART IS, released in February 1990. What sort of relationship did these two guys have? Did they ever bond over steaks at Dan Tanas? WHERE THE HEART IS has to be considered a comedy and while the idea of a John Boorman comedy makes about as much sense as a Don Siegel musical, enough of his personality still manages to come...

...Boorman a heck of a lot. Best known for "Deliverance" - which I don't think I'll ever be able to bring myself to watch again - and "Excalibur," I'd have to say I prefer to those "Hope and Glory" and, most of all, "The General." If you haven't seen this flick starring Brendan Gleeson as Irish robber Martin Cahill, I really can't recommend it...

...Boorman Rating Since their highly successful 1998 collaboration The General - based on the life of the Dublin criminal Martin Cahill - Brendan Gleeson has been a fixture in John Boorman's work; The Tiger's Tail returns him to center stage, and to Dublin, for a rough-edged satire on modern Ireland. It's an uneven film, full of unexpected...
